Simple Nanban sauce

Great on meats and vegetables

Inspired by Japanese Nanban this sweet and sour sauce adds deep umami flavours to your dish. Use this simple sauce to glaze your protein (chicken, pork, eggs) or vegetables once cooked.

Ingredients

  • 1 part soy sauce
  • 1 part vinegar (rice or white)
  • 1 part sugar

example: for about 1/3 cups of sauce mix 2tbsp of each ingredient.

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients. You can also set it aside 10 min for the sugar to dissolve or zap it in the microwave a few seconds to accelerate the process.
  2. Brush or spoon the sauce on cooked protein or vegetable.
